A Love Pentagon written in free verse and heightened language.
From the text of Love Taught...
⚫"AZALEIA. The biggest exposee of a man's character is his response to death, and Cosmo here, the bravest of us all, has resolved to marry it.
Under his judgment, the universe bends towards order,
And unblessed dead girls like Anemone may rejoice in holy matrimony.
If I knew fifteen more sons, none could compare: for this one
Has grappled with Death's hooves and exited the tussle usncathed.
Behold the modern age, where True Love knocks down Death's Door."
⚫"ANEMONE. She's a snake in the field, mark it,
Who speaks of grace, yet defecates falsehoods.
No reason has she to lie to me--no reason she has.
CLEMATIS. What's hers she makes hers,
For she likes her treasures possessed and un-sundered.
Scoff, you? At protecting one's own love, what a notion!
Perhaps you'd be better to follow that motion,
For you've opened your gates for a man never coming,
And your peoples pay th'price for the dote you're becoming.
Be dignified, young Dote, and do you a favor,
Leave behind your delusions of grandeur.
ANEMONE. You "loyalist"--you--who fetch'd me the tools of my humiliation?
This person, so loyal, set fire to my station.
My emotions--like does--ran wild, and you let them run free,
But too far they've travelled, so you snag and berate them.
How far must my does not sprint? Under what pretense should they stop?
Fate gave them legs so they may explore;
And the forest she made is too vast to ignore."
