After vendors sell things onstage to the audience and cast and crew, a family of six finds a box onstage. Opening it is a struggle which lasts a whole theatre-going experience.
From the text of The Box...
⚫"URMINE: (making her way to the stage) You've all looked the silliest I've seen you from over there. Like completely different people. (entering the stage) Even now, I can sense a horrible version of myself, looming over me like a shadow that only the people watching can see."
⚫"DUPRE: If I say why, no matter how real I try to mean it, what you'll hear is a fake "why." It would be unrelated to the sadness. It would be a "why" which belongs to some psychological theory, it would come out of words I don't mean, and it would be a "why" which you will scoff at. You'll take this "why" and place it into a compartment labeled "things that I need to be convinced otherwise about." And this compartment, then, you will smash to pieces."
